5 Easy Minecraft Build Tips to Become a Better Builder
Create a Cohesive Block Palette
When starting out, most players will build with one type of block. It’s easy and accessible, but very boring when you’re trying to build a nice starter house.
By creating a cohesive block palette, you can easily add interest to your builds. Plus, it helps to keep you focused so that you don’t go overboard with adding too many different blocks!

2. Add Depth
Here is an example of a simple wall design. We’ve added spruce logs for the columns and stone bricks for the wall, but it’s flat. An easy tip here would be to add depth by bringing the logs forward and connecting them at the top.
3. Add Texture
Next, we can add texture to the stone brick walls by adding stone blocks randomly. When adding textures, it’s best to stick with monochromatic blocks so that the walls don’t look super random. Our goal here is to add texture, but still keep it cohesive at the same time!
4. Add Small Details
Don’t forget to add details. For example, breaking up the wall by adding stone brick stairs and stone stairs are small details that change the look and feel of this wall so much!
Again, we’re still using stone brick stairs and/or stone stairs to keep the colors cohesive.
As a general rule of thumb, if you’re planning to use glass for windows, always go for glass panes over glass blocks (though, there are certain exceptions depending on the build).
5. Don’t Neglect the Exterior
Lastly, we added podzol for the ground covering, oak leaves, and red mushrooms. By adding simple landscaping surrounding this build example, we can make a big impact on the overall look and feel.
The Takeaway
Building in Minecraft can be overwhelming when you’re just starting out. It’s easy to make a lot of build mistakes, but that’s okay because we’ve all been there! You don’t need to be an expert by any means to build a beautiful starter house. By implementing these easy Minecraft build tips, you can turn your house into something you can feel good about.
